Objection to Stages 1 and 2 of the widening of Hiram's Highway, Sai Kung
Message:	To the Chief Executive: Government proposes to build a multi-lane carriageway all the way to Sai Kung from the Ho Chung roundabout. This will destroy the features which makes Sai Kung attractive to both residents and visitors. It will open the way for mass development in Sai Kung, and will destroy the heritage and environment of the area. Once destroyed, it can never be regained. We would like future generations to enjoy the Sai Kung we have now. The existing road includes features which have a natural traffic calming effect without impinging on smooth vehicle flow even at busy periods. Following the tragic accident at an “improved” section of this road we would strongly discourage further roadworks intended to facilitate increased traffic speed or volume. In fact, some road improvements, such as Public Light Bus stopping spaces, and exit access lanes, may ensure the safety of all users, especially pedestrians and cyclists.
