Anything
concerning land status changes, including planning applications.
Below are some of the planning applications FSK is involved with or has been involved.

Clearwater Bay - Wing Lung Rd. |
| |
Initially a planning application to build in a conservation zone that had been decimated before approval had been granted. This escalated as a High Court Judge decided that the land wasn't worth "conserving" and approved the development only to be stopped thanks to the actions of the Wing Lung neighbours. Street lights in the Sai Kung Country Park |
| |
| At the end of 2007 extensive works were started inside the Country Park to set up street lighting. Despite numerous attempts to find out why they were being installed and to stop them, the works went ahead. Today most of the road to Wong Shek pier is adorned with brown light posts, some of them inside the country park, some preventing wheelchair passage and all of them making the road less safe and disturbing the local fauna. This is still an ongoing issue for FSK.

Ho Chung village |
| |
| Three issues have caught FSK's attention in the village of New Ho Chung (the sprawling development by the roundabout).
1. The village is spreading up the valley, an area that was agricultural land. In the last few months there have been planning applications for over 17 houses (3 stories high). Apart from the lack of planning (no roads, paths, services, etc) there is also no provision for car-parking spaces. Planning Dpt. was made aware of the problem but so far no solutions have been proposed (not quite sure why a widened road is needed if there will be no extra cars in the area).
2. Access for safety vehicles to many of the houses was impossible, with locked gates and illegally parked cars blocking entrances. Although somewhat solved this remains an issue.
3. Widening of the Ho Chung river: About 5 years ago a freak storm caused the river to flood. The response comes now in the form of the largest drainage works Sai Kung has seen (three locations, not just Ho Chung). The scale of the works is absurd and does not justify the destruction that has taken place along the Ho Chung river. FSK met with the contractor and is still trying to ensure the lives of the few trees left standing.

Rezoning of the
water area around Sharp Island as a "Marine Park" |
| |
Sharp Island (Kiu Tsui Chau) is a country park, however the waters around it are not despite being home to a wide diversity of marine life. FSK is campaigning to rezone the waters around the island as "Marine Park", which would help to minimise destructive boat activity. During the Reef Fish and the Black Kite exhibitions over 2000 signatures were gathered in support of this campaign.

Rezoning
Yeung Chau as an "Conservation Area" |
| |
The island of Yeung Chau (just of the Sai Kung waterfront) is home to the Black Kite. A number of proposals have been suggested to convert the island into a tourist attraction (including boarded tree- walkways) that will endanger not only the habitat of the Black Kite but of all other species whose home is the island, including its coast. Friends of Sai Kung is collecting signatures to campaign for the rezoning of the island as a Conservation area. Please send us an email if you would like to add your name to the petition.

Heritage Trails |

The network of traditional paved roads provides important evidence
as to how and by what routes Hong Kong's early villages and market
towns were interconnected before the development of the modern road
and rail system. FSK is helping to rediscover those roads.

Hiram's Highway "improvement" |
| |
| The main road into Sai Kung from Kowloon (Hirams' Highway) is marked for "improvement" (initially "dualling" now just "improving"). FSK believes that there is no need to build a 4 lane highway into Sai Kung. This is an ongoing matter that started in February 2008 with the a Highways Dpt. consultation forum.More information, plans and notes from meetings.

Sai Kung waterfront |
| |
The waterfront encompasses the port of Sai Kung, the promenade, the boat shelter area, the pier and the seawaters around the breakwater.
The waterfront plays an important part of Sai Kung Town in terms of its functionality and outdoor characteristic. The waterfront is the centre of Hong Kongs outdoor seafood eating environment and is the regions boating communitys gateway to the outer islands within Port Shelter and beyond.
In association with the community stakeholders, Some years ago Friends of Sai Kung initiated a plan to carry out a Community Action Project CLEAN SAI KUNG WATERFRONT an initiative to revitalise and improve the water quality of Sai Kung. We are now collecting the public's views as to what else could be done to revitalise the waterfront.
